Much Ado About Nothing: SDSU 2002

(Craft Work)

Designer: Megan Richardson

This was my venture into the crafts word of costume design. Fellow graduate student Megan Richardson designed this lavish Shakespeare show and I was assigned to make masks and hats for her.

I have never made any hats until this time. I was very pleased with how my first attempt at a pulled felt hat came out. The masks were something I have never done before as well. I was allowed to design masks for the ladies and their fathers for the part scene. Each one was sculpted out of plastacine, then covered in a layer of paper mache and a wet layer of buckram. After building up a good amount of layers, the masks were taken off the plastacine, painted with metallic spray paint and detailed with acrylics and a sharpie pen.
